Today is Cruisin' for a Cause Day!

Make sure to stop by your local A&W restaurant today for Cruisin’ for a Cause Day!

If you’ve got a classic car, cruise on over and show it off. If you don’t have a classic car, that’s ok, just bring your appetite. There’ll be lots of great food, cool classic cars and great music too.

And the best part is that it’s all for a great cause, because we’re donating one dollar from every Teen Burger purchased to the MS Society of Canada. So help fight MS by stopping by A&W today!

It’s a delicious way to do some good.

A&W Cruisin' the Dub in Brandon attracts over 300 cars!

On August 13 in Brandon, Manitoba A&W sponsored a BACE (Brandon Area Car Enthusiasts) Downtown Brandon Cruisin’ the Dub® Show’n Shine in support of the MS Society with a record-breaking attendance! This “warm-up” event for the national Cruisin’ the Dub Day (August 27) had over 14 blocks of 345 vehicles participating and the streets were jammed with spectators! We had people dancing in the streets to the live band and lined up at the Cruisin’ the Dub tent to meet the Great Root Bear.

“It was a complete thrill to be at the heart of such a successful event as our spectacular local cruising community filled the streets to help us raise over $2,175.00 for the MS Society! We are looking forward to relive the experience at our restaurants on the 27th and are so very proud to be part of this national event!” – Kim Mills, A&W Brandon Manager

Cruisin’ for a Cause Day donation cut-outs are a hit!

As part of the lead up to the Cruisin’ for a Cause Day, A&W’s across Canada are selling donation cut-outs for $1 with all proceeds going to the MS Society of Canada. There has been tremendous response from customers all A&W Restaurants all across the country

"Within the first 24 hours we had sold over 300, and I was panicking, as I knew we were going to run out of cut-outs! The response from customers and staff has been overwhelming. The staff can't wait to plaster the walls with the cut-out cars. Seeing the cars on the wall also prompts the customers to ask, 'what is it all about?’

Cruisin' for a Cause is going to be awesome. We are excited about this, and have told everyone to come and buy a Teen or two on August 27.

P.S. The girls haven't even made it a competition yet!!!"
-Janie, A&W Manager in Hinton, AB
Don’t worry we sent the staff at the A&W in Hinton more cut-outs.

You can also stop by your local A&W to show your support to help end MS, by purchasing a donation cut-out for $1 with all proceeds going to the MS Society of Canada.

Thursday August 27 is Cruisin’ for a Cause Day

Be a part of something big! Buy a Teen Burger on August 27 and $1 will go to help end MS.
On Thursday, August 27, all A&W restaurants across Canada will be celebrating Cruisin’ for a Cause Day! A&W restaurant owners have committed to donate $1 from every Teen Burger sold within this 24 hour period to help MS Society of Canada to end MS.

Cruisin’ for a Cause Day is inspired by the strong connection between A&W and the communities across Canada that the restaurants belongs to. With over 5,000 Cruisin’ the Dub events each summer, we thought we can do something great with this program. We realized that if we held one enormous Cruisin’ the Dub event across Canada and combine it with a great cause – we can really make a difference.

With over 700 locations across Canada, it will be easy to do your part to help end MS. It’s never been tastier to support a great cause!

Have a great Cruisin’ the Dub or MS story to share? Send them to me at ayeh@aw.ca and I will post it on the blog some day.

About Cruisin' the Dub

In 2008, A&W hosted 3,000 events and is expecting up to 5,000 A&W Cruisin’ the Dub events from nearly 250 locations across Canada.

A&W always has been a favourite destination for boomers who grew up enjoying warm summer evenings in their cars. For many, A&W was “the place” to go before and after a night out. A&W Restaurants were always surrounded by cars in the drive-in with their radios blaring, and trays of Teen Burgers, onion rings and icy cold A&W Root Beer delivered by car hops. Cruisin’ the Dub is a successful and widely popular program that recreates and recaptures those good old days and allows those visiting A&W to re-live those happy memories.

Today, Cruisin’ the Dub is one of the largest and most successful classic and collector car program in Canada (if not North America). It is all about the classic cars, great tunes, and delicious food at A&W.

Cruisin’ for a Cause Day is a celebration of the good days at A&W, while raising much needed money for the MS Society. On Thursday August 27, be sure to drop by your nearest A&W and purchase a Teen Burger and $1 will be donated to the MS Society of Canada!

Can’t wait for August 27? Check out our other Cruisin’ the Dub events that are being held across the country throughout the summer. Visit the official Cruisin’ the Dub website or check out 2009's Cruisin' the Dub Calendar for the next event near your location!

What is MS?

I have a lot of people asking me “What is Multiple Sclerosis?”. Simply speaking, Multiple Sclerosis, or MS for short, is an unpredictable disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord. Individuals diagnosed with MS experience neurological symptoms which affect their physical and cognitive activities. This makes it hard for these individuals to perform the everyday tasks that we take for granted. More scientific explanation can be found here.

Why should I care?
Everyday, three more people in Canada are diagnosed with MS. Between 55,000 – 75,000 Canadians are living with MS today. Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world. Chances are there is someone in your social circle who is fighting MS right now.

The video below gave me an insight on what it is like to live with MS.

A&W Family Fun Sunday help fight MS!

Last Sunday, June 21, was the very first A&W Family Fun Sunday of the 2009 Vancouver Canadians baseball season. The marketing team from Head Office dedicated their Sunday afternoon to sell A&W Root Beer Floats for charity at the Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver. The weather cooperated and the team was able to raise over $1,000 for the MS Society of Canada! This is a great way to kick off the summer.
